When pelvic floor muscles weaken, organs such as the bladder, rectum, uterus, cervix, or vaginal wall may descend, sometimes protruding outside the vaginal opening. This can cause pressure, discomfort, pain during intercourse, and difficulty with bladder or bowel emptying—leading to retention, constipation, urgency, or incontinence. Common terms include cystocele, rectocele, vault prolapse, and procidentia.
